Petros Liacouras is an Associate Professor of International Law and Deputy Chairman at the DIES, Piraeus University. He is currently the Director of the Post-Graduate Program on "BRICS", Director of the Research Center on "Negotiation and Mediation". He is a graduate of Yale, Temple and Athens Universities and of Harvard’s Program on Negotiation. He currently is a Member of the National Council of Greek Foreign Policy, a Director of Research at the Foreign Policy Planning Center, a Member of the Legal Advisory Council of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a Member of the Naturalization Committee at the Ministry of the Interior. In the past, he had also been appointed as a policy advisor of the Hellenic Foreign Ministry. He had also worked as a legal officer at the (former) European Commission (now merged with the European Court) of Human Rights of the Council of Europe. On the field of the academic community, he is a Vice President of the Board of the Hellenic Association of International Law and International Relations, and Member of the International Law Association (ILA, Hellenic Branch), and a Member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Law of the Sea and Maritime Law, Rhodes. He has been the author of many books and articles on the international law, the law of treaties, and the national and collective security in the international arena, the contemporary self-determination and human rights. He has a profound knowledge of the human rights law and human protection clauses which will contribute to the realization of the project and help to the dissemination of European law and legal procedures.
